Welcome to my office, or we can meet on Telehealth.

Relationships are the cornerstone of a fulfilling life filled with joy and a sense of well-being. Whether you’re navigating the complexities of partnership, marriage, parenting challenges, or tough family dynamics, seeking professional guidance can make a significant difference.  And your relationship with yourself – your understanding, self-awareness, self-esteem, and accessing better coping strategies and insights- are a part of this growth.

Many people think “I will just handle this” or use social media or podcasts to assist.  Sometimes friends and family are helpful, but we do not want to overburden them.  Many people don’t quite understand the import of working with a professional until they are engaged in therapy.  Working with an experienced marriage and family therapist who can help you grow, learn, and apply new concepts and practices is a much different experience than “going it alone.”  You will learn much more about what you are going through and what will help you find your way through with more positive results.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy tends to focus on hearing and understanding your experience and finding a way through challenging feelings and life phases. Sometimes it is the start of getting help with your marriage or parenting issues. It may be that you are feeling a sense of spiritual and inner happiness have evaded you. Or that you are feeling lost and need a vision for your life. Sometimes people come to therapy knowing that they are making poor choices and need help understanding themselves and finding a healthier path that feels more gratifying. There are a range of issues that individual therapy can help with.

Couple Therapy

Couples tend to come to therapy when the bond is feeling challenged or even broken. Typically, there are wounds that have happened along the way and emotional distance, sadness, loneliness, anger, and a sense of profound “stuckness” are prevalent. Education and new tools and approaches are introduced and worked with. Themes working with separateness and togetherness, achieving balance, feeling heard, supported, and inspired in the relationship tend to come up. I work to understand the experience of each partner and creating and strengthening the bridge between.

In working with couples, therapists tend to have a few approaches either only working with the couple together, or using a mix of couple and individual sessions. I work with either approach because it depends on what is comfortable and builds a sense of safety and trust with that particular couple. So, this is something we discuss at the outset of therapy and check in with along the way as well.

Family Therapy

Family therapy allows a therapist to work with the family as a whole or with different parts. Sessions typically involve meeting with parents first to determine goals and how to move forward in a way that will work best for children. Sometimes family members have individual sessions or the family is seen in “subsystems” (ie: siblings, parents, parent/child, etc). Education, new ways of handling things, parental leadership, family health and shifting the family dynamics that are not working or leading to stress are typically topics in family therapy.
